Helpful tips to remember

1. Try avoid using non-friendly products such as dishwasher detergents that kill the good bacteria in your septic tank. (examples would be of some with chlorine in them.)

2. Try avoid using any products that are anti-bacterial. (This again will fight off the good bacteria in your septic tank.)

3. Try avoid using any the laundry detergents that have chlorine in them. (It might be good for keeping those clothes clean, but it can hurt your septic tank.)

4. Try avoid using ALL bleach products. (If you have to let something soak in bleach, make yourself an area outside that you will use strictly for that purpose. Make a laundry house outside away from the septic tank.)

5. Try avoid using all household cleaners that contain bleach and anti-bacterial ingredients in them.

6. Try avoid using deodorant bar soap, they contain anti-bacterial ingredients in them. Avoid them if possible. Find one that doesn’t contain the anti-bacterial ingredients in them.

7. Mouthwash products have the anti-septic in them, find one that doesn’t contain it.

8. Stay away from any drain products. They have some pretty harsh chemicals in those products.

9. Try and stick with single-ply toilet paper.

10. What ever you do, do NOT throw grease, tampons, paper towels, baby wipes or anything of that sort down the drain. It will just clog your septic tank up.

If you can remember that if the product contains chlorine or words like anti-bacterial or anti-septic. Then you know that it probably is not going to be good for your septic tank.

Try finding some good products that are environmentally safe to use for yourself and for your household needs. It will help to ensure that your septic tank stays in tip top shape. You can try adding some bakers yeast to your toilets once a month. This will help with keeping that good bacteria in the tank.

(Things to watch for in your house if your septic tank is starting to malfunction include, gurgling in the kitchen or bathroom sinks, bubbling coming up through any of the bathroom drains or toilets. If you hear or see any of this, you might really have a problem on your hands. Call your septic tank guy to help you out.)
